Yaxhá is a Mesoamerican archaeological site and an ancient ceremonial center and city of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization; it was the third largest city in the region and experienced its greatest power during the Early Classic period.

Topoxté occupies five of a group of six islands at the western end of Lake Yaxhá, due to fluctuations in the lake's water level, the islands can occasionally become joined.
